The Play.
Mr.
Manson, an American Nightmare is a
one man show created as a result of Eduardo del Olmo´s
Master in Performing Arts at Susan Batson Studio in New York City thanks to the
Fulbright Grant for the Arts.
The show
focuses on the intimate life Manson, epitome of Evil and macabre reverse of the
American dream.
The
piece enters the prison (and mind) of Charlie, and his soul
is exposed through a childhood full of pain and abandonment; one
without education, economic resources or role models. A youth full of artistic
frustration, crime and the promise of redemption through his cult. An adult
life drowned in madness and hatred.
The
show drinks from various sources:
*The
Susan Batson technique: Unfulfilled Inner Need (love and lack of limits),
Public Persona (guru and monster) and Tragic Flow (narcissistic conspirator and
sociopath).
* The
poetic and dreamlike space of Charlie’s own nightmares, in which the Mother
is constructed through an Hair Mask.
*Technique
of puppetry through the Theater of Poverty: A small play within the play,
reflecting on the class system, patriarchy and the education system.
